brown-bagged photos

We had an assignment to manually change white balance on our cameras and take at least 10 pictures. These were all taken somewhere in my house, so most of them are something that i see everyday, and have a very home-ey feeling to me. Here are my favorite ones:

1:

This picture really stood out to me, because of the vibrant red. I think i like this one so much because it is a little off center, which uses the rule of thirds. The one red flower is in focus, while the rest of the subjects int he background are not. The lighting is a very soft, warm lighting. The photo is filled up, leaving no room to fill up the frame, yet the entire subject is there, and not awkwardly cropped off. The mood is very laid back, and feels like home. It kind of makes me feel relaxed, and happy.

This picture is my favorite from the entire shoot, and i think it's because how focused it came out right on the top and sides of the box to show how old and worn down it is, but that is what makes it interesting. The depth of field also makes it interesting, as a very precise point on the box is in focus, while the rest of it is out of focus. The white balance in this one is the setting for dim lighting (as my camera only has options for different presents), but i think it adds onto a nostalgic look. This picture kind of makes me feel homely and relaxed also, which is what i was shooting for (no pun intended :)

This photo is also one of my favorites, mostly because this is in an important room in my household; the kitchen. This is where we eat our "family meals", and because of that most of our discussions are taken place here. This photo really catches my eye because the spatula is just off center a bit to the left, but then there are also two more utensils off to the right hand side, kind of leading into it. Also the horizontal and vertical lines help lead your eye towards the focus (the spatula nearest). The depth of view is perfect for this, because it focuses on the nearest object, but does not completely cast out the other objects in the background.
